This building was built by the French in the periods 1886–1891 according to the design project of architect Villedieu and his assistant Foulhoux which is a harmonious combination of Western-style architecture and Eastern decoration.

The post office is particularly impressive for its exterior architecture with curved windows and a large clock at the building’s main entrance. While all the windows on both sides of the building are arched, windows in the middle hall are rectangular. One of the most outstanding features in the office is that all the pillars in the front hall of the building are intricately decorated. The main pillars supporting the second floor are decorated with reliefs made of rectangular stones engraved with the names of famous French investors who devoted to the telegram and electricity sculpted on each post of the building. 

Inside the central post office is considered a 20th-century European train station. With this arch system, the building looks so tall, spacious and receives natural light. On the interior walls, two maps are telling the history of Saigon telecommunication systems.

Over time, the Post Office retains its original architecture and becomes an iconic building in Ho Chi Minh City.
